More Happy Than Annoyed

Pet Peeves:

*People who are chronically late to everything. If I can get 6 children, under the age of 11, usually on my own, to school, church, group activities, lessons, sports, practices, etc. early and on time 98% of the time, I'm sure you can be on time, too! It's not rocket science. It simply takes planning. If it isn't working, re-do the plan. Because when you joke about how you're late, or how our Mormon culture is late, you're not being funny. You're just proving that your disrespect for those around you runs deep enough you don't even notice it. Btw, MMM wrote a good post about being on time. Read it here.

*Aunt Flow. Or Flo. She has not come to visit since May of 2011, just before #6 was conceived. It's been so nice! Usually, after birth, she comes back right away, regardless of how much I nurse. This is the first time she's stayed away the entire year of nursing! It was wonderful. Truly. But at the same time, now that she's back (due to #6 being weaned, I'm absolutely positive), I'm feeling relief. (So, this part isn't "peeving.") Aunt Flow might be annoying and painful, but she brings with her peace and comfort. Now I know that my body is working correctly; I know my body can produce more children (fingers crossed). It's strange that something so inconvenient can be so comforting.

*My memory. Seriously, my memory is so annoying right now. I'm forgetting to do things that are even written down on the calendar! #facepalm

*Senators and Representatives who pass bills without reading them first.

Things that are making me happy right now:

*Church. I love Church!

*My covenants. Keeping them the best way I can and feeling the power of God in my daily life.

*My gorgeous, amazing, talented, forgiving children. They run me ragged and make me laugh.

*Brandon. Always Brandon.

*Exercising. I look so forward to early mornings again!

*My Kindle. I have it on my iPhone and iPad, so no matter where I am, I've got books! I have to admit that it took almost 2 years before I was able to warm up to it. I still prefer a real book (the pages, people! The pages!), but because of my Kindle, I'm able to read MORE. Who knew? I've been into contemporary Mormon fiction (romance) lately. I read:
The Outer Edge of Heaven by Jaclyn M. Hawks
Persuasion: A Latter-Day Tale by Rebecca H. Jamison
A Timeless Romance Anthology: Spring Vacation Collection by Josi S. Kilpack, Annette Lyon, Heather Justesen, Sarah M. Eden, Heather B. Moore, Aubrey Mace

Next up I'm reading Blind Sided by Cheryl Leigh and then I'll read some Sarah M. Eden:
Friends and Foes
Drops of Gold

Of course, I'm also reading Covenant Motherhood by Stephanie Dibb Sorensen. That's right! Steph! That Steph! I'm loving her book and I'm going to be quoting from it in my Women's Conference presentation in May. Her book launch party was Friday night and it was so good to see her (and Amber!). I'm so happy for her!

What's making you annoyed or happy right now?

Chronic tardiness can drive me batty--especially if it's 30 minutes or more! It shows a blatant disregard for others.

That said, I've got ADD, and so do 2 of my kids. ADD can derail even the best-laid plans. I know you'll know this, but some people don't believe that ADD is real (just like depression and anxiety and any number of other things). It often makes getting to something on time really, really hard for a bunch of reasons. (Maybe I should do an ADD post sometime...)

FWIW. (Which may not be much.) But I'm talking about a few minutes tardy, not huge, ridiculous amounts, which drive me nuts too!

I've done what I think is a great job getting my kids to church alone for pretty much all of motherhood years. SO grateful they're old enough now to get themselves ready for church and school for the most part, so when my brain goes on the fritz--and it does--it's not a crisis.

I have a friend who is ALWAYS at least 30 minutes late. I used to laugh about it and try to not be bothered, but then there were a couple of times when it really mattered (likr givig the key talk at a YW program and nt being there for another 10 minutes). and I realized it was blatant disregard for others and it truly affected our friendship. It often put me in awkward positions of explaining why to others or disappointing my kids because she would often mi ss entire play dates or park days with us.

Tell me if you like that Persuasion book--it's my favorite Austen, but any knockoffs have to honor it right.

Also, I recently stumbled upon this old post from my own archives, and I thought it would have made a good, compassionate rebuttal to MMM's post. I agree in principle, but sometimes people are really trying.

I was recently given a "letter" from the school about our lateness; we had a really bad week of Dad being ill and Momma having serious morning sickness and a question of whether the kids would be well enough to even attend school one morning. It all culminated in a slightly bullying letter from school rather than a phone call or a chat with the head teacher, asking if we were okay.

That bothered me a lot.

I don't love tardiness but I do love a lot of people who are frequently late... :)

Your memory will improve as soon as your sleep does. Three weeks of 6+ hours sleep and you will be amazed!

Primary teachers who don't show up, or who text us on Sunday morning during sacrament meeting that they won't be there. Like that does us a lot of good!

My 16 month old has learned how to get on the table by climbing on the chairs. Great development, not so great safety issues.

My tulips are almost up. YEAH!

I'm going to go back and read the rest of the post in a sec but wanted to say before I forget - I pinned a picture over a year ago on Pinterest that said, "the trouble with being punctual is that nobody's there to appreciate it". Reminds me of church! :-) Nobody is perfect, and I'm late on occasion but constant lateness really does annoy me!
