So, When is the Baby Really Due?

I've been pretty lucky with my pregnancies. No gestational diabetes, no pre-term labor, no massive swelling until the last month, no complications with labor and delivery (although I do bleed pretty heavily, but it's easily remedied). I have nice, big babies [8lbs 3 oz; 8lbs 6 oz; 9 lbs 11oz; 8lbs 5oz], and I recover rather quickly.

Today was the first time I've ever felt fear. And I have all week to think about it.

I had my regular 24 week appointment today. The nurse measured me and was very concerned (I was measuring a good 30 weeks). She tried 3 times and got the same result. The midwife came in --she also tried about 3 or 4 times and got 30 weeks, too. However, the baby is moving around just fine, the heartbeat is healthy and strong, and I actually feel great! But the midwife is concerned about fluid levels --which could mean gestational diabetes or just too much amniotic fluid (which equates preterm labor). Of course, I'm known for HUGE placentas, so it could easily be just that.
Who knows?
Which is why I'm going in for another ultrasound (it's on Monday).

I'm not feeling massive fear --the baby feels fine and I feel fine --but this is the first time something has "gone wrong", you know? So, I'm kind of nervous. Should I be? Has this ever happened to you? Not necessarily the fear part, but measuring SIX weeks ahead? I mean, the ultrasound at 20 weeks was 7 full days ahead --could they have been mistaken? Could he be even further along? Is it probably just my placenta? I mean, it could be a big uterus, too, right? I have had five other pregnancies (although only 4 made it past 9 weeks)...

Hmm...I could go with the big placenta idea. But, just in case, you'll be in my prayers (as well as Baby Happy Crazy!) Love you.

Nothing like them saying something could be wrong and then making you WAIT almost a week to figure it out. Don't they know that us pregnant women are CRAZY and emotional and think the worst?? I am sure everything is okay, will keep you and Baby in my prayers.

how solid are you on the date of conception? i measured that far ahead, but i'm afraid to tell you that she turned out to be ten pounds and nine ounces without gestational diabetes.

hang in there, mama! don't worry, just resign yourself to having a huge kid! :)

I get the diabetes but because I had it with the first they never let me get big because I have to go right onto a diet the minute that I get prego. I feel your pain though it is tough when you think something may be wrong. I am so sorry and I hope that they were just wrong. Good luck I will be praying for ya.

siobhan-
I'm like Greenwich --you could set a clock by me (I've been this regular since I was 12 yrs. old) and we're pretty darn postive on the due date (although I still believe I ovulate twice) because Brandon was in China and then London that month. ;) So, my ultrasounds are always ahead with my boys because I believe --or know, for a fact --that they were all conceived at an impossible time (as in, the day after my period ended). So, I know this one is actually due July 26th (which the 20 week ultrasound actually already confirmed). But they won't change it --it's still "technically" August 2nd --because how can I prove I ovulate more and why would I even try?

Anyway, that's all. And like I said, I do have big babies and HUGE placentas, so I'm hoping that's all it is... :)

I don't have any advice to give on the situation, I just hope that everything turns out fine.

I'm sure everything's fine, but I'm sure it's frustrating to have to wait a whole week for that ultrasound!

I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. I hope you don't have a super stressful week though! Keep us posted. And I love that someone referred to the baby as Baby Happy Crazy. So cute!

I never bother worrying until I know for sure there's something to worry about.

What have you been eating lately? Maybe that "invisible twin" is a food baby. ;)

Cheryl...you'll be fine and baby too...they measured me wrong as well. My whole pregnancy with Brian they said I measured 4-5 weeks more than I should. In the end he was born a week early and was 7 lbs 7 oz and 19 inches...so some times it is just our bodies..drink lots of water and enjoy spring break with the kiddies...and i got your message about class today...so i guess i don't need to get #2 until the 28th, right??? let me know.
you're all in our prayers.

Hmm. Are you exhausted after you eat? That is usually the biggest sign (besides weight gain) of diabetes. It was for me anyway. It's so funny to me that you are measuring that much further along. You look so tiny to me! Seriously last week when I saw you get out of your car I was like "How does she do it?!" You carry your kids well my dear! Han in there, I'm sure everything is fine and the nurses are just erring on the side of being careful.

Ha! Food Baby. :)

Cristy, actually, I don't feel exhausted after eating --usually I feel better. I have been eating like CRAZY these past 4 weeks, though, and I only gained 5 pounds! I've only gained 14 pounds total so far --would gestational diabetes make me gain more? Or is that just in my head? Maybe I should google it.

(and you are sweet to say I look so small. :) My pants are getting too tight --my maternity ones! Yowzahs!)

P.S. You guys are all so awesome to quickly comment about praying for me and giving me stuff to think about, etc. Love you!!

Don't worry about it. Sure, it could be something but it's probably nothing. Don't borrow trouble. Good luck.

I had two pregnancies with excess amniotic fluid. I think they call it polyhydramnios. Anyway, my first one was because there was a syndrome involved and excess fluid occurs with some syndromes. She was born early- 36 weeks, lungs fine, but other complications. The doc said she was huge, but when she arrived, she was a 4 pounder. She was a NICU baby.

But the second one was unexplained. He was born at term, (a few days before the due date via c-section), excess fluid. He was just fine... except that he had stuff in his lungs *I think* because of the excess fluid. The docs called is pneumonia, but he never grew anything from the cultures. He was a NICU baby also... 9 days in, all because of his sickly (fully developed) lungs. He was an 8 pounder.

Just goes to show, could be something, could be nothing. Just rest easy. Heavenly Father will take care of you... and the baby.
