Loving the Ides of March

In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.
~Margaret Atwood

It is such a beautiful day today. Perfection, really. Sun, breeze, blue/white --my purple crocuses are blooming! The kids are outside (never mind that #5 is still in his pajamas--so am I), I'm dreaming of summer, ivy, trees, mountains, rivers...

Never mind that I am exhausted to the point of delusion.

Never mind that croup/coughs/colds are passing through our family slowly (but hitting everyone in succession) and I'm afraid #6 might not be immune from it.

Never mind I haven't showered in two days.

Never mind the fussy baby who wants to be nursed/held constantly.

Never mind the dirty house.

Never mind the traveling husband.

Never mind the loneliness of miscommunication.

It's a beautiful day! I only wish my windows were big enough to let in all the light; that my home was positioned in, and was, a place that looks like this:

(Throckmorton Cottage; used in the 1995 version of Sense and Sensibility)

If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall.

I've been wearing shorts and flip flops for the past few days, begging spring/summer to come and stay a while.

"A cottage!" I love that movie! Movie trivi: that is actually a small corner of a very large estate house, they covered up the rest with trees and film magic. Glad you're seeing the light through all the bustle!

Hi Cheryl. Congrats on a beautiful baby, by the way. All your kids are loverly and I truly adore birth stories.
I happen to work in a library, speaking of the Ides of March. March 1 is my favorite day of the year to check books out to folks, because then I can say with dread in my voice, "Beware the IDES of MARCH." We have a two week check out period, so that's when their books are due. If ONE person gets it and smiles that day, then it's worth it. The others just think I'm weird, and a weird librarian is OK.
