Why Do I Do This To Myself?

I have now learned that just because a person is present, it does not mean they are capable. In this instance, I'm talking about yours truly, and to get specific, I'm talking about this week. Holy cow! I threw a fabulous (yes, it was fabulous) bridal shower last night and I'm leaving for Philly with the spousal unit tomorrow morning. In the next five hours I need to change the oil on the van, go to #2's parent music class at school, finish typing out instructions and signing the medical release for the babysitters, feed the boys lunch, fill the van with gas, go to Costco to fill prescriptions and purchase some last minute needed items (diapers and toothpaste), drop/pick up #4 from preschool, plan dinner, throw together the budget for my portion of the Activities committee's plan for our stake's 40th anniversary extravaganza that is happening this fall, and... ooh! I think that's it. Wait, no! I still have to type up a flyer for Relief Society on Sunday and get the music for choir to the substitute accompanist. SHEESH!

Why do I do these things to myself!? Instead, I should be wise and tell people I'm out of commission for two weeks. No, I can't do anything. I will be in between trips. I will be in between massive laundry marathons and mental breakdowns. I can't do it. No. Nope. Nuh-huh.

On a similar note, I had a Mother Fail yesterday, which actually turned into a Mother Win! I got out of shower at 9:15AM only to be greeted by a phone call from #1. She asked if I had remembered to come to her parent music day which was starting in 2 minutes. I told her I was literally nekkid and couldn't come. I had forgotten. She cried. I told her I loved her. I hung up. I sighed. I threw clothes on, threw clothes on the boys, and rushed out the door. We raced to the school, I threw #5 in the beco on my back, we ran (literally) into the front office, signed in, ran down the hallways and walked into the music room 10 minutes late. I had wet hair, no make-up, and #5 was barefoot. The look on #1's face when she saw us? Totally worth it. Will never forget it.

Have a great Thursday, dear reader. I'm going to try not to hyperventilate.

I've come to the same conclusion this week - somehow I have to figure out how to say no without feeling guilty... so hard
