Awards, VT, and...*sigh...I Miss the Fair!

Fluffychicky presented me with this award! Why, thank you, fluffy! I love your blog, too. I'd like to pass this onto:
Every blog on my sidebar. You may think this is a cop-out, dear reader, that I could not possibly love every blog I read, but I do! Every blog I read gives me new perspective and enhances my life is some way. So, please consider yourself the recipient of this award. How could I choose just one of you? That would be torture, you know. Pure torture.

Amanda presented me with this "Arte y Pico" award. This award was designed to be given to bloggers who inspire others with their creativity and their talents, also for contributing to the blogging world in whatever medium.
Thank you, Amanda!
I'll pass this one onto:

Last night my Visiting Teachers came over. It was good to see them; they are loyal, kind, and concerned. Every time they come, I am left happier. How lucky am I? To have such great Visiting Teachers? It's not always been this way; and I'm not the best VT, either. I could go on and on about Visiting Teaching, but for now, I won't. Just answer me this: Do you have good VT?
----------------------------------------------
Wishing I was here:

You know, I haven't been to the fair in what? 8? 9 years? That place holds special memories for me: wristband days with my friends in 8th grade; working the parking lot and the Corn Booth for Marching Band fundraisers; dates; eating until I exploded; conquering my fear of being flipped upside down on rusty old carnival rides; fun concerts; awesome rodeos; the fun parade where, for two years, I directed the Blackfoot High School Marching Band whilst-a-marching backwards and stepping in horse manure (never breaking ranks), all while wearing hot polyester.
Those were the days, my friend! The days. The days of what, I'm not sure, but they were the days.
Maybe one day I'll get back to the fair. Maybe. But for now, I'll be content with the excuse as to why I can't get there: BYU Football. And for some reason? That excuse is jut fine to me.

Have fun at the fair, all my fellow Idahoans! Don't forget to eat a Tiger Ear for me, and some of that famous Italian Soda and Ham Fried Rice. Oh! And drop by the Bronco Marching Band Booth and get some yummy corn (is it still there??). I'll be drooling on my pillow just thinking about it...

The corn booth is still at the fair. I am willing to sacrifice and eat some fair food in honor of you as long as you cheer extra loud at the BYU game in honor of me.

Deal!

Oh, Goodness, how I love the fair. Husband teases me often about it. I love the tiger ears and the Navajo tacos and the baked potatoes and all the booths. Oh, I love the fair.

And I have good visiting teachers. And I'm a good visiting teacher. It's okay to say that, right?

GO COUGARS..a teensy bit--okay I am very envious that you get to go to the game!

My best VT were when we were in the singles ward, they were so inspired and service oriented and we became such close friends. I am striving to be MUCH better VT than I have in the past!

This is a GREAT post! I don't have visiting teachers right now, and I'm not a visiting teacher. Both of those things make me a little sad...but just a little bit.
I miss the fair. You forgot the awesome ice cream cones near the dairy barn. I wish I could attend. In fact, when my mom called this morning to check on us (there's another hurricane coming, and this one's big, and we'll probably be evacuated) and tried to tell me to just fly home, I was tempted, mostly because we could go to the fair if we were home. But, instead we will evacuate to Austin to stay with my good friend Shanan, and I am fine with that.

Julie-
Very okay to say that. I usually am pretty good at visiting teaching --normally --but I always end up with women that have no desire to do it. So I call and call and visit alone and it's so discouraging. So...right now I have one of those companions, so I'm not doing a very good job of it. Sigh.

Cardalls-
Well, we do live in Provo, so it's easier to go to the games. And I married the Cougars #1 fan, and so we always have season tickets. Always. In fact, we had season tickets LAST year, when we were living in CALIFORNIA. That just shows how serious we (okay, mostly he) is about BYU football. Ha! :)

Jill-
OH! How could I forget the ice cream!? The ice cream. Yummm... But holy cow, an evacuation!? I hope you guys stay safe and so does your house. Stay safe!

Congrats on the awards!

I too miss those Eastern Idaho State fairs. I haven't been in years, but no other fair that I go to, no matter how big or small, matches up to that fair that I grew up with. So many fun memories, especially as a teenager. Someday I will make it back and eat tiger ears and corn on the cob and any number of other things that I really shouldn't be eating :)

I'm an Aggie fan through and through so I can't get on board with your cougar passion, but I hope you have fun.

Thanks Cheryl!

I'm not the best VTer but I try. And I have some of those VTers too...they try.

I grew up with the world's biggest Cougar fans--my parents! They go to at least 1-2 away games each year and always go to bowl games, cougar club rah rah's etc. i grew up wanting to take over Paul James' job because I LOVED BYU football and knew all the stats etc. Now I love it, but my brain cells don't remember stats--i think those cells left with 4 placentas!

What in the world is a Tiger Ear?

Leslie said...

Oh...I heart you too! I do have some good visiting teachers right now. I just don't really feel to the point yet where I really feel like I could call them when I need help - know what I mean? I love that you love the Eastern ID State Fair...I plan to go next year for ya. ;)

Cheryl said...

Cardalls-
Then why aren't you coming up here for the games, child! Get up here!

Mother-
A Tiger Ear is just a really big and delicious and perfectly delectable Scone. Mmmmm...

Desi-
Well, we're not all perfect. J/K! The Aggies are okay in my book. :)

Summer-
You're welcome!

Leslie-
Oh, man! Everybody goes to the fair but me, I swear. That's it. Maybe next year I'll go with you! Ooh!

Flip Flop-
There is no try. Ha! Actually there is a lot of trying and that's better than not doing, I think.

FluffyChicky said...

I'll eat a Tiger Ear just for you Cheryl. :) And then I'll eat one for myself and then I'll eat a funnel cake and then a Mammoth Burger with some corn and then...

Have fun at your football game! :)

Cheryl said...

Fluffy-
Thank you! And maybe ride the Zipper for me. Is the Zipper still there? But don't ride it after the tiger ear and mammoth burger and funnel cake and corn and... :)

Jocelyn said...

Oh my heavens, how could I forget the dairy association ice cream cones?

And Mother, can I personally invite you to take your family to the EISF and get a Tiger Ear? They are a-mazing.

Cheryl, I'm commenting to others in your comments...sorry, but darn I miss the fair!

Cristy said...

Well thank you! Hope you are smiling today and I just got to say I'm still laughing about your Marijuana story from earlier this summer... My MIL has Payoti (sp?) growing in her yard, so don't feel bad!

Cheryl said...

Julie-
You better gosh darn keep on commenting on other's comments in my posts!

Cristy-
Ha! That's too funny!

Julie AND Cheryl,
I think I might just have to add this fair to my family vacation list for next year...whaddya say, should we all caravan to the fair in 2009? :)

Cheryl said...

Sounds good to me!

Mmmmm, tiger ears and a fresh cherry lime squeeze. Le sigh..... At least you're not shucking all those ears of corn anymore, right?

I am SO GOING to the fair this year...ALL THE WAY FROM MANILA. Yes, I specifically planned my trip to fall into the category of fair time. Is that lame? My pregnant body needs the self-indulgence of fair food doesn't it? Plus my child needs to know what cows are...they don't have them here.

Richelle said...

As close as I lived to the fair growing up, I don't think I ever went. I like me a good BYU football game, though. I was just reading my 2 year old his BYU book and singing him the fight song today! :)

I don't have visiting teachers and I'm not a very good one myself.

Only one of our ladies wants us to come at all and she doesn't want a message, just a visit. I visit her often, and usually alone. But I always feel uplifted just by talking with her.

I've been to the EISF. Awesome! We went after attending Julie's wedding reception. Thanks Juje for having it the same weekend! It was nice to get to walk around before making the drive back to Utah.

m_and_m said...

But...but...I can't receive the award if I'm not on your sidebar. :) :)

Rochelleht said...

Mmmmmm.... Tiger Ears...

Cheryl said...

Rochelle-
Yes! Yum, indeed.

M&M-
What!? AHHH! I have rectified the situation. You would think I would pay more attention, wouldn't I? You are on my google reader, so I just assumed...

TaLaisa-
You were at Julie's wedding? Me, too! We probably saw each other and everything. I'm glad you had a taste of the fair.
And yes, sometimes just talking with the people we VT can be very uplifting.

Richelle-
You are the best mother in the world. I have tears now!

Melissa-
Well, dang, girl! Travel safely and enjoy some fair food for me. I can't believe you get to go and you live on the other side of the world! Not really fair, you know. :)

Becky-
Holy cow, the corn husking! I was so allergic to that corn silk, but I kept going anyway because it was such a social event, what with all the worm throwing and flirting going on.
Sigh...those were the days...

Jeanette said...

Would you believe I have never been to a fair? At least I don't think I have...I've always wanted to go to one. Does that count? Probably not.

I do not have good VT and I hate to say that because I have not been very good the last few months myself. My VT have never stepped foot in my house since I moved here last year. They have shown up unannounced 3 times but refused to come in when I invited them. I would love to have some VT that actually come in my home and visit with me, maybe share the lesson etc.

Thank you for the award! You are too kind. It was a very pleasant surprise to find it when I got back from our little family camping trip. And very humbling when I read the description of the award. Thanks so much!

Jeanette-
You are welcome! You deserve it, you know. :)

Well, gosh darn it, you need to go to the fair! Find one and go, okay? And I'm sorry about your VT. That's hard; I hope you get some good ones soon. We all deserve to have good ones at one point in our life, you know?
