All Kinds of Goings On

I'm sure many of you have heard about the recent ruling in California where four judges decided to overturn Proposition 22. Just the fact that over 60% of CA residents voted in favor of Prop. 22 and are now being told they were "wrong" makes me sick to my stomach (haven't the people spoken?).
Throughout the last 10 years or so, I have studied the issues of SSM (same sex marriage) and I have come to some very difficult and lasting conclusions. Honestly, I probably should dedicate an entire post to the subject, but my blog here is not an open forum. I don't want to argue points like that here (nor cause unwanted traffic sent to "put me in my place", etc.). Just know that I do not agree with SSM, and I agree with everything my Church leaders have spoken on the subject. If you would like to know about that, please read here, here and here.

But I did want to let you know about some blogging comments that not only give me hope (and make me yell YES! YES! YES! at the computer), but very logically and perfectly explain (where I cannot because of my lack of skillz and prose and brain power) why they are against SSM and the arguments people use to promote it. Mondo Cool and M&M's comments start around #32 if you are interested in skipping the rest of the blog post (which is very good, actually).

[If you are here to argue with me, please leave. I will not debate this subject here. If you want to debate, go find a community blog. Thank you.]
My friend Jen recently lost her grandmother and shared with us a poem she had written in 1974. Go here to read it. It's simple, but very poignant.
Thanks to all of your suggestions on the routine post, I have made myself a list/routine/goal for the summer. I have another week of slacking/psyching-myself-up and then come June 2nd, we're off and running! Each and every one of your comments was used and thought about when I sat down to brainstorm a plan that would work for me. Thank you, again!
It's raining today. It rained all day yesterday, too. I don't mind the rain, but I mind the children who refuse to play in the rain. I'm really hoping that the skies will clear for Memorial Day weekend because we've got some fun stuff planned:
  • Seeing my cousins as they pass through on their way back to Calgary tomorrow. Hooray!
  • SIL is flying in on Sat for a couple of days. We're taking her to Omar's!
  • U2 IMAX, baby!!
  • Hiking/picnic with friends up AF canyon.

Hopefully it all works out. In the words of #2:

"Mr. Sun, Sun! Mr. Golden Sun, please shine down on, PLEASE SHINE DOWN ON!!!, Please shine down on meeeeeeeeeee..."

What are you doing for Memorial Day weekend?

Looks like your only Memorial Day plan that would be ruined by rain is the hiking/picnic, so that's good. I'm actually kind of hoping it rains, because were going to put our backyard in this weekend, that is until we saw the forecast. So the plans were scrapped, and Wayne's done no prep work all week. If it turns out sunny, all weekend Wayne will be thinking "Dang, I could have done the yard afterall!". I'm not a big fan of regrets, so bring on the rain!

We were going to camp out in the Wild-In-Laws' back yard, but now it might be a pup tent in their living room. :)

Interesting post about SSM. It makes my stomach churn to read all the comments. I need to stay away from all that, I think. Let's just say that I agree with you.

Have fun this weekend! I hope you get some sun, and I hope we do too. We are hoping to get out and enjoy nature!

It's going to be cold so we are just going to hang out with some friends this weekend. It will be nice and relaxing before Spencer starts his summer school...blah

We're doing our mini-vacation to SLC. BUT, before that my parents are coming for an overnighter (remember THAT conversation???!) and we're going to visit graves on Sunday and Monday. That's actually my favorite part of Memorial Day and I am so looking forward to it!!!

We are headed northward to go to some hot springs and to visit graves. It is something I actually like to do too, but this year the flowers cost and arm and a leg...I have spent almost $150 and I still don't think I have enough. Flowers either need to become cheaper or my family needs to quit dying on me. :)

Psst...I totally agree with you on the SSM stuff.

Typo, sorry.

I disagree with you on the SSM stuff but I think you already know that. We'll discuss over raw vegan food at Omar's. See you tomorrow!

Cheryl! Long lost high school classmate! The one who did all the work for our ten year reunion and I didn't show! I feel a little sheepish about that, but not enough to let myself feel terrible. ANYWAY - I found you through Julie's blog. So glad I did. Can I just say, that you and Julie both are so entertaining? I am loving reading your stuff, even though I'm stopping to go finish the book I'm reading, but I just love the things you say! Awesome. You keep it real, which is so refreshing! I need to practice a little of that myself. I tried yesterday, then had blogger's remorse knowing other people were going to read my thoughts - so I chickened out and deleted it. I'm working on it though. I'm so happy to see that you are healthy and well in Utah. And if it makes you feel better, which I'm sure it doesn't, I've been going through the EXACT same emotions as your "routine" post. We all do every once in a while. Such is life. Keep in touch and I'll try to stay updated on your blog if I have time! So glad to have found you!

I'm so glad you found me! And now I'm glad I can find you. I'm going to go check out your blog right now. :)
