Maybe it should be Crazy Meets Happy

There have been plenty of blog posts lately (or forever) about how difficult it is being a mother with young children. Or teenage children. Or adult children. Heck --with children! I tend to agree.

I'm grateful for these posts. Sometimes I feel, in my loneliness and isolated life with four children under the age of seven that I am a crazy, crazy mother. Of course, I am happy. And crazy (theme of this blog, no?). But anyways...

Here is a list of some crazy things that have happened in the last week. I'm not proud of all of them. Some of them embarrass me. Others make me laugh. A few make me cry --and then laugh. Sadly, the laughing ones did not become laughing ones until my break-downs were over.
  • #3 thinks he should sleep in the girls' room. Every night. On the floor. I have yet to figure out how to put him back in his room permanently
  • #4 thinks it's funny to wake up three times a night. Crying it out is working, but it's still taking some time. He's fickle. One night he'll sleep all night. The next he's up every hour.
  • #3 decided to redecorate the bathroom yesterday with two full rolls of toilet paper (sorry, honey! I know you didn't know this. I was hiding it from you out of respect for your own sanity) and toothpaste. The toothpaste he got from the dentist, which, up until now, was horrifying to him. But now it's great for sculptures and painting the mirror! Hooray!
  • #1 tried to get snacks for everyone, and the entire bag of animal crackers fell on the floor.
  • #3 opened up a bag of "crafts" --i.e. a ziplock bag with hundreds of tiny beads for making necklaces/bracelets.
  • #4 is starting to understand spitting while eating solid food.
  • #1 has perfected, to an art form, the pouting/whining tantrum complete with the storming off and slamming of the door. She's only six!
  • #2 thinks it's funny to annoy her brother or sister to the point that she gets hit, and then gets them in trouble.
  • Tonight, at #1's school registration, #2 and #3 thought it was funny to find the drinking fountain and get each other soaking wet.
  • #2 finds it fun to draw on walls.
  • #3 likes to spit. A lot. At people.
  • Oh, and #3 doesn't believe in potty training.

Here is the good:

  • #1 helps out A LOT and usually without thanks.
  • #2 sings all day long and is such a wit!
  • #3 is so silly, we laugh until we cry.
  • #4 is the most adorable baby ever seen, and he's so calm.

I'm crazy with these kiddies, but I sure am lucky, you know?

I SOOO GET it! Even with the crazy, there's happy. The other morning (the day after the car-breaking debacle), My day started with Derick dumping 1/2 a gallon of milk in the kitchen and having 2 poopie diapers, one of which ended up all over my arm.

Ah, the glamour of motherhood. Gotta love it!

Thank you! I need to remember the good when I am down because of the bad! Thanks for this reminder.

Been there, done that on many of them. My heart goes out to you on the sleep training. Hopefully it will stick...and FAST!!

rochelle-
I never commented on your post about the car-breaking incident at church, but I was so glad that you wrote about it. I appreciate your honesty. I think that if we, as mothers, can be more honest with each other, we'd feel a lot less guilt.

LOL! Thanks for this post! I too have had a hectic week. It's good to reflect and write down those things we love about our kids, to read on those crazy days.
