Murphy and His Law

Last night, #5 was up every hour. He's just sick; he'll be fine. But the lack of sleep was not very welcome.

Law of Murphy: When mother is leaving for a few days, the children get sick, the house falls apart, she doesn't get enough sleep to be able to enjoy the upcoming vacation (which will still be enjoyed, of course --I'm just projecting my own frustration at exhaustion onto the situation).

I'm leaving for a few days, btw. Girl's Weekend! I'm pretty happy about it. I believe I deserve a few days, don't you?

Heather posted that all of their big things are happening at the same time in the next few months. It made me think about mine. So, here's my Laws of Murphy or When it Rains it Pours or All Big Things Happen At the Same Time:

*Children all need new shoes at once.
*One flat bike tire turns into three flat bike tires and then #2 accidentally breaks her glasses at recess.
*Pregnancy, job changes, death, sensory disabilities, and sickness. At the same time.
*The freezer accidentally gets left open for days (while we were at the Memorial Service) and causes water damage and the need to defrost. Plus the fruit flies multiplied. LOADS of fruit flies.
*Bills. And more bills. And unexpected bills coupled with expected bills.
*Injuries. One kid (#1 gets shin splints), two kids (#3 falls at school and gets some pretty nasty damage on his knee), three kids (#5 falls in the bathtub and bites through his tongue, creating a forked tongue, causing panic and trying to decide if we should get it stitched up --we didn't get it stitched. It's healing really fast and well!).

Just realized all of the above is happening RIGHT NOW. Figures.

Today is not as bad as the other day, gratefully. Even with the lack of sleep. Even with Murphy and his jerky presence. I'm not sure why. Is it because of Girl's Weekend? Because I heard the baby's heartbeat yesterday? The conversation I had with #3 where he realized education/school is actually a good thing? All of the encouragement I received from friends? The chocolate dipped strawberries a wonderful friend gave me? My visiting teachers who are reliable and helpful? A RS president who does her job well and is actually my friend? Planning a canyon trip for Monday to see the Fall foliage because the kids are out of school for the day? Vanilla Almond milk? Listening to Brandon read Harry Potter out loud to the kids?

Probably.

You've got a lot on your plate right now. You mentioned job change - is Brandon at a new job or looking for one?

I'm looking forward to seeing you this weekend. It will be nice to catch up.

Thinking of you.
