It Might Be Raining, But I Know Summer is Lurking!

I love basil. Adore it. I eat it plain! Not dried basil, silly! Fresh --right off the plant.

My herb garden has done rather well this year. All the oregano, parsley, and thyme have come back and are thriving. Thriving! The cilantro and basil didn't survive the winter, and so I bought the basil last week at Whole Foods. I'll need to get cilantro again because we use that stuff a lot.

My garden plot also has yielded some surprises (even though the neighborhood cats decided it was their litter box a few months ago). I have red leaf lettuce (which tastes great), my strawberry plant, and some onions doing their thang. The onion bulbs were too small, but the stems are fantastic!

This has given me the boost I've needed to get excited about my garden this year. I didn't start my seeds like I wanted to, but I'm okay with it. I'll still have a great garden! Lots of tomatoes, zucchini, lettuce, carrots, onions, cucumbers, and peppers. And other stuff. I hope!

I read this fantastic article that very simply and succinctly describes why I think home birth will be the right option for me. The author is none other than Blossom! Yes, I'm showing my age. Go read it with an open mind. Everything she says is accurate. That doesn't mean you have to change your mind about home birth for YOU --I'm just recommending it so people will stop telling me why it's wrong for ME.

I get two new nieces within the month! Yay! I'm really excited. It's been fun to buy girl clothes again.
-----------------------

Today: Preschool, therapy, preschool "graduation" (singing songs and looking cute; #4 will actually be doing preschool again next year --he's only four --but that's okay. I like cute kids singing songs!).

I got my butt in gear this morning and cleaned the kitchen. And then I cleaned out the coat closet. Not sure where that motivation came from, but I did it! Which is why I'm taking a break. I mean, I figure, I did dishes, swept the floor, wiped off counters, emptied out and organized the coat closet --I've done my quota for the day (to quote a friend), right?

Remember my Summer Routine from last year? No? Oh, well. It shall be very similar. Last night at FHE we talked about different service ideas we could do for service day. I need to up the chore list, though. These crazy kids have been getting away with murder the past month. I blame the travel and the end of school.

For those who care, here's what our Routine usually looks like:
M-F:
Get up, dress, breakfast, chores, and School (which includes reading, practicing piano, writing, and math skills).
MON: Service Day
TUES: Hiking and/or picnic Day
WED: Library Day
THURS: Museum Day
FRI: Park/Free Play Day

My rear end still hurts a lot. I've been able to exercise, but it's so sore! I'm hoping it's better by the time we go to Hawaii. Sitting on a long flight with this injury will not be fun.
----------------------------

I am so very excited for summer! It means hiking! Camping! Nature, nature, nature! I might have to demand we drive to the mountains everyday, just so I can soak in some silence.

(Photo taken in Muir Woods)

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

My kids have been getting away with murder too. I don't remember the last time one of them did a chore other than make their bed. I have GOT to change that. I don't know why I hate chores. I know it's good for them and it's less for me to do, but sometimes it seems like more.

I admire your summer schedule. You're so ambitious! I need to start thinking about summer... It will be here before I know it!

Hiking will be great practice for PTC. All those hills wont be so killer that way!

I have a friend who has done two home births, and she said they were great. (You know, as "great" as unmedicated births can be.) Actually, everyone I know who has done a home birth has nothing but good to say about it. I myself would not want to do one, but that's me. In theory, for other people, I think they are super.

I need to grow my own basil. Will I? Probably not.
