Food:
*There is no meat in my house. None. The freezer-burned chicken was finally thrown out last night.
*The only dairy in our home is Greek Yogurt, cheese, and the butter (which is almost gone). I will probably continue to buy the yogurt because I'm not ready to buy probiotics. The cheese is still a staple for the other people (ahem, hubby and kids), but I did buy some Daiya yesterday and it was pretty good! I just need to see if it will melt. If so, I will transition us to that until I can wean us all off cheese for good.
*Raw food is now Queen (or King, whatever) in our house. I still cook the food a bit, but not much. The only foods I tend to cook are things like lentils, quinoa, barley, rice, and potatoes (roasting). I did make a meatless chilli the other day, too. I figure we're going to be around 80% raw. That's my goal, anyway.
House and Yard:
*I started composting. FINALLY. I need to figure out a better way to get it from the cutting board to the garden, though. It has a lot of steps in between and the hardest step, by far, is the first step (from cutting board to...wherever). How do you guys do this step? Do you have something in your kitchen?
*The other recycle bin arrived! Huzzah! Too bad I still have a huge load of recyclables in my carport. I think it's gonna take some time.
*I've picked out the color I want to paint the living room. It's been approved by the spousal unit, and so painting shall commence shortly!
*My amazing buddy creates amazing art and I bought some! They arrived yesterday and I'm seriously now going to re-decorate (or, I should say, decorate, because the entire place is a blank canvass of glaring WHITE) the main bathroom to match the pieces. Best part? She sent me a snippet of a Robert Frost poem. I adore Robert Frost. Adore him.
*The house cleaner/maid has come for two weeks now, and I'm in heaven. I seriously am hitting myself for not doing it sooner because it's been worth every penny!
Children:
*#3 started Karate in our Elementary school's after-school program. #2 wants to join.
*The science fair is next week and #1 and #2 have both entered. #1 observed what happens to raw cookie dough when different ingredients are added to it while it's left on the counter for 5 days. #2 washed dirty rocks in different types of soda pop.
*#5 starts Nursery on Sunday! Please cue the Hallelujah Chorus.
*I'm too hard on these kiddos. I need to praise more and scold less. Again.
Random Stuff:
*I just got a new calling. I can't tell you what it is, dear reader, because I haven't been sustained. I will be on Sunday. And then I'll tell you. I probably should have just kept it to myself but I'm pretty nervous about this calling, but I'm also very excited about it. Thus the telling of the calling I can't tell you about. Yet.
*I got a speeding ticket last week. I was going 78 in a 55 (I know, I know) and I had just slowed down (I was slowing to about 65) as I approached the construction, but the cop picked me (because this is Utah, and so you know everyone else was going at least 70). So, I got cited. Supposedly you have to go to court now; they don't issue the citation there on the road. However! Just as I was trying to figure out when I could go in, I got a letter in the mail asking me to just pay the fine and then I could skip court. It was $115. Much lower then I expected! I mean, it was a construction zone, you know?
*Brandon's last weekend of school for January is next week. Then I will only have three months left to cross off on the calendar. I'm trying to be patient. Trying, trying, trying. I think I might be failing. And for that, I'm really sorry Brandon!

My mom uses an ice cream bucket (you know the big plastic ones, with lids) to put her scraps in for the chickens. Clint's grandma uses a coffee container (red, Folgers with a lid) and keeps it in her fridge so it doesn't stink. Good luck!
I put my compost in a paper bag, and when it's full, I add the whole bag to the compost.
Good idea, Emily! I put mine in a ice cream bucket and then make the kids take it out to the pile which is quite a ways through the snow. I just throw it in the snow and if the animals eat some, oh well. However, if you want it to be ready in the spring, throw peat and dirt or whatever brown matter you have over the top of additions. Easy peasy. Raw food is awesome and I commend you. We eat lots of fruit and veggies raw and trying to work in more beans. More power to you. I expectr a serious garden from you this year!
becca, I shall endeavor to meet your expectations! :)
