Laid. Off.

I'd like to introduce you all to a friend I call "unemployment." He moved in yesterday.

Brandon and I knew it was coming. When they canceled his trip to Germany, he asked his boss (more or less) what project he needed to prep for after the Vodafone one (the one that took him to London all the time), and he was told "just focus on finishing up Vodafone." Then last week, lay-offs began. We added it up and figured he might be next. We saw the writing on the wall. We felt the breeze of change. We knew it was gonna happen.
And it did.
Yesterday.

Bad things:
1. No job
2. Possible move again when we find a job
3. No job

Good things:
1. Money until January
2. Health Insurance until January
3. Chance to find an awesome job
4. Still in school
5. We've done this before

Brandon and I are calm about this. Perhaps it's experience that is keeping the freak-out at bay (my freak out. Brandon doesn't tend to freak out). Maybe it's knowing we have some buffer time to find a job. It could be that Brandon rocks at treating finding a job as a job. Or it could just be that the zoloft is really, really working. Who knows? Who cares? All I know is we're being optimistic, so you should, too. Not about me, silly reader --about yourself! Be optimistic. It's possible, you know. To be optimistic.
Quite possible.

Still, my thoughts are very much with you. Good luck over the next few months and enjoy a little bit more time with Daddy at home. Well, you know, when he's not studying or schooling or job hunting!

i love that you're finally trying zoloft. from the outside looking in, it seems like the timing worked out perfectly for you to give it a shot. having taken it before, i'm sure it's taking the edge off for you. the rest, though? that's just you being amazing and strong and faithful. "this, too, shall pass." good luck!

Holy. Crud. I'd be freaking out. Yay for you for being so calm, though.

I'm so sorry. I've been there and I know it's tough. But for some reason it really helped me to realize that just about everyone that I knew had been laid off at one point or another too. It just made it easier to believe that it was temporary. 'Cause it is, which you know, 'cause you've been there before yourself. But I'm just saying it anyway, 'cause it's still nice to hear. Or at least it was for me.

Oh dear, that happened to Kevin a year ago. But we felt the same peace knowing we were being "watched out for". Good luck with the new "endeavor" at least he's awesome with computers. Who wouldn't want him!

Even though your so calm and you knew it was coming, it still sucks. I vote that Brandon do some job searching in the Portland area. There are lots of houses available up here. :)

I'm so sorry...that sucks! I know...my husband has been out of a job for two years...granted I have my job, but I know how hard it can be.

I forgot to add...yeah for your optimism!

We've stood where you are and it is never pleasant. I am grateful you have some time and understand that something amazing will come form it. I never thought I'd have a career that I love as much as I love where I am now...and that was after losing our business, our home and having to start all over. There is a reason for everything. Now it is time to jsut take a deep breath and put your trust in the Lord.
I've learned some very important things including the freak outs are good when the kids are asleep. It gives you time to let all the stress out.
After that, put your trust in the Lord. These things are out of your control so let go and leave it in the Lord's hands and from there. You're going to see some remarkable changes in your life and what blessings are going to happen. Hang in there...your family will be in my prayers.

My husband is a laid off teacher. He got his notice last spring and the jobs dried up this summer so he is now back in school so he can add more subjects to his teaching certificate. Losing a job is certainly no picnic but it is truly an opportunity to grow and change and make things better in the long run. Thank you for sharing this positive post. It does help me to know that our famiy is certainly not alone in this "out of work" situation.

I read an article once that said that over 1/2 of execs in Fortune 500 companies had been laid off at least once in their career. It was all in the attitude...they saw it as a new opportunity. Sounds like you have the right attitude! Maybe Brandon will become an exec of a Fortune 500 now :)

Ugh. No fun. But as I keep telling myself, change is good. Good things are surely around the corner, and all that... Brandon should talk to Jim about a job...

Dangit! You said you thought it was coming and I agreed that it sounded like it was, but I was hoping we were both wrong. Dangit!

Since my current job ends in 12 days and I don't know what I'm doing afterward, this was a good reminder. Thanks, Cheryl!

I hate layoffs, but the awesome thing is that you have some time to look and Brandon's getting a rockin' degree. One of my best friends was recently laid off and for some reason he and his wife just felt calm and good about it. He looked for quite a while, but they kept feeling calm. He found a great job in the same city where he was. A few months later, he was called to be the bishop in their ward. Seems that the Lord likes to test us a bit before he blesses us big time! I know you've been here before and that has to be frustrating, but I also know that things are going to work out exceedingly well for you all!
