Amniotic Fluid, Baby!

Ultrasound Results:
I have massive amounts of amniotic fluid that is bordering on way-too-much/scary.

What it means:
I have to take another glucose test soon (tomorrow or Wed) and come back for another ultrasound in 4 weeks.

If I have gestational diabetes:
I watch my diet, take it easy, and continue to have the baby monitored.

If I don't:
The doctor kind of gets worried because we need to find out as to why I have so much fluid.

Worst Case Scenario:
If I don't monitor carefully or change my diet (or they can't figure out why I have so much fluid), then the uterine wall may thin out, the placenta may detach, it may induce early labor, the umbilical cord may fall out of my cervix before the baby has a chance to enter my pelvic area, which would all equal: Preemie baby via C-section.

However:
Baby looks fabulous. He's nearly 2 1/2 pounds now, moves around a lot, still has all major organs (that are working perfectly), and is still a boy (haha!). Anyway, the doctor is confident that the worst-case scenario is very unlikely because my midwife caught the massive measurements so quickly.

So, there you go! I'm happy with the results and am feeling very peaceful about the situation. But I think I'm going to try and eat more veggies and lay off the sugar for a while...

P.S. Thank you guys so much for caring about this! I really appreciate all your concerns and kind words...

Cheryl,

If it does wind up being getstational diabetes or if you have any questions about testing, feel free to drop me a line. This is my third time through that process and I'd be happy to share some of my hard won wisdom on the matter.

Hey - maybe this one will be an olympic swimmer or something!

Best wishes for you and the baby Cheryl.

Why not just take it easy even if you don't have Gestational Diabetes? Doesn't taking it easy sound so good right now?

I love you! I'm glad that you are ok!

Go to Costco and fill your freezer with Aspen Mills Honey Whole Wheat bread. I just stayed away from white flour and it seemed to make a huge difference. Glad the results have a positive outlook!

I'm not really here (bloggy break, remember!), but I had to pop in and say phew! Glad things are going okay.

I was always on the other end -- not enough fluid. Good luck in the next few weeks!

Cheryl,
Glad to hear that #5 is healthy an still a *boy*. I would be concerned otherwise.
Relax, put your feet up, and enjoy this wonderful weather.
Good luck with the birthday for #1.

Good news. I'm glad you still have a boy. I've never been a big fan of transgenderism, particularly in babies...

I have had the gestational diabetes 4 times now each time getting worse whether or not I take care so you are lucky it is just with #5. Eating no sugar gets easier as you go along. About the first 2 weeks you crave it then the craving goes away. If you are drinking any kind of soda I would recommend you don't, they told me that can cause diabetes. Good luck and at least you are pretty far along to have to start a diet. I have to start immediately. 9 month is really a long time with no sugar!

Yay for a healthy, active baby with all of his major organs working perfectly!

Good thoughts/prayers for the other stuff!
