I Quit

I never use to be a quitter. But I am one, now.

This summer feels like the summer of quitting. No, not QuiLting --quiTTing. Which, ironically, would be funny, since I can't really quilt, so I would have quit that, too!

I quit exercising. Five times. I quit Weight Watchers. I quit three chore charts. I quit many website subscriptions. My therapist quit me (I guess that means it wasn't my fault? But probably was, I mean, she was my THERAPIST). I quit doing laundry (folding it, anyway). I quit gardening before I even started. I quit organizing the office. I quit making green smoothies. I quit family scripture study (although that wasn't entirely my fault and we'll start again tomorrow). I quit sleeping (haha!). I quit piano lessons (well, I had the kids stop for 6 weeks). I quit my goal of not yelling (for the 10th year in a row). I quit mopping my kitchen floor (except once). I quit making my 3 year old wear clothes most days. I quit taking care of my feet. And hair. And face. I quit every goal I started within days of starting.

The only things I didn't quit:
*My husband
*My children
*My religion

Since those are the most important, I guess I'm not a terrible quitter. Just a consistent one. Blerg.

  1. How about you quit being so hard on yourself? (hugs)

  2. I'm with Bex, this shows that you are making important distinctions about what is important. Instead of saying that you are a quitter say that you are wise! Because you are. You start things because of your good desires, but reality jumps in and you make the choice to "abstain" from your own unreasonable expectations. If I made a list like this I'd feel so bad I'd quit getting out of bed ;)

  3. I agree with the first comment. :)

  4. Sounds more like you retrenched... you didn't quit on the very most important things. Kids need breaks, from piano and clothes and perfectly-mopped floors. No condemnation from this quarter!

  5. All those things are overrated anyway.

  6. Sounds like conserving much-needed energy for the most important tasks to me. Hang in there.

  7. Do you know what I thought of when I read this? I thought of Lehi when he left for his promised land. All he took was food, his family, and tents (which seem to me to have spiritual significance).

I think you have an awfully profound pattern going here... good stuff to think about.

  8. I'm in the same boat as you -- I quit going to exercise regularly, I quit weigth watchers and then quit eating well to maintain my weight loss, I quit family scripture study (so need to start again...why is it so hard???).

Honestly, I think that summer is a season for quitting. Once school starts, you will be able to get back in the swing of things. And soon, baby has to start sleeping more and then you will be able to start and finish and succeed. I know it!

  9. I like you people. I like your comments. I was expecting more "well, stop quitting!" comments, but instead you guys blew me over with your optimism. Love you all. <3 (Bex, it's good to see you around here, again!)

  10. I shared this with my husband and as I did, I felt the Spirit in a big way.

Just wanted you to know. ;)

I love, love, love your comments! But please remember a few things:
1. Please be respectful.
2. If you know the names of our children or our last name, please do not use them.
Thanks!
