Buy this book. That's where the recipes are. But honestly? I make my green smoothie on the fly every single day. It's never really the same. Sometimes, I'll find something the kids love --this usually elicits a repeat now-and-again. But not really. Because I don't write any of it down. I follow the smoothie template in Robyn's book --and even then I vary it up. I just make sure I have raw foods in it: veggies, fruits, and some nuts/seeds occasionally.
For you, though, dear reader, because my love for you is so immense and overwhelming, I'll let you know what I put in my smoothies today (I made two. The first was for breakfast/lunch; the second for dinner/breakfast tomorrow). There are not really any specifics as far as measurements go (in most cases) because I eyeball it:
This morning:
Water
1/3 lemon (with the peel)
spinach (frozen this time)
carrots (handfuls of baby ones)
large tomato
5 whole dates (pitted, of course)
handful of walnuts
one avocado
frozen fruit (that one blend from Costco --peaches, berries, pineapple, melon, etc.)
frozen berries (marion, rasp, and blue --also blend from Costco)
This evening:
Orange juice (Simply brand)
large tomato
carrots
small cucumber
handfuls spring mix greens
handfuls baby spinach (fresh)
one pear (ripe)
5 dates (pitted)
frozen fruit (the blend from above)

Exercising:
Last night, Brandon's cousin stopped by to stay the night on her way back to school in Idaho. I haven't seen her in person since she got back from her mission (last April!), so we ended up talking and talking and talking... until 2AM.
Needless to say, I didn't get up early this morning. For a split second, I figured I had failed before I had begun. But, but, but!! At around 10:15AM, when the cousin had safely left, the kids were at school, the younger boys were happily watching a movie, I did it. I went downstairs and did it.
I DID IT!
#5 even came down to watch me and hand me a weight or two, but he didn't get in the way. And you know what? 20 minutes is easy, man.
After exercising I drank some water. I then showered. And got the kids dressed. Started laundry, ran errands and went to Costco, supervised homework, fighting, whining, piano lessons, dinner, and....
Holy cow, I'm tired.
And now it's time for FHE. And some kid is crying. I guess I should get off the computer now...
My kids thought they were Jillian today and had plenty of constructive criticism for my form. One or more of them got whacked, but no one was injured. (I mean whacked when they wandered into the path, not whacked because of their words of advice.)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Do you use enough fruit to mask the veggie flavor?
ReplyDeleteYou're my hero.
ReplyDeleteMy kids get whacked on occasion, usually not a big deal. On day however the (not so) baby whacked me in the ear with a 3lb weight. There might have been some cursing, there was definitely some bruising.
evitafjord-
ReplyDeleteI would of whacked them for the other thing, too. ;)
Kimberly-
I do for the kids and I did at first, but now I actually like the veggie flavor. It's a process, though. :)
Alison-
No, YOU are MY hero. Taking one for the team, man!
Mmmm I LOVE green smoothies - off to make mine now.
ReplyDeleteAt first I read "time for FHE. And some crying." And I was like, "wow, I totally relate." Then I read it the right way, and while I could still relate, it just wasn't the same.
ReplyDeleteI would eat all that stuff in your smoothie. Pre-smoothed. (Well, maybe not the dates.) But more power to you, my friend!
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of admiration for Evita's accidental whacking. I don't know if I could show that kind of restraint after having my form critiqued by my children.
Thanks to Jillian, I can no longer move fast enough to whack them on purpose. I hear it's supposed to get better...and then I'll get them, bwahahahahaha.
